When does Partial Photography make sense?
Graco has a big inventory of product shots. Their new models many times have minor changes, like new sprayer heads, a new paint color, or new labels. In this case, it was much cheaper and faster to have Digital Illusion photograph the new sprayer heads and insert them on the old products. It saved time and money, not needing to re-photograph the whole units, outline and creating shadows.
When does Retouching make more sense than Photography?
Many times brochures need to be created before the new products even exist. When a new label is needed to be placed on a rounded or flat object, Bob can take the new Illustrator or Photoshop file, warp it to the correct shape and place it on the object without photography.
